We've talked to dozens of marketing leaders over the past year about AI visibility. The most common reaction when they first see their GEO data goes something like this: "OK, so we appear in 3% of relevant AI responses. That's bad. Now what?"

The first stage is discovery: automatically identifying the queries your prospects ask AI assistants, prioritized by business impact. Not the queries you assume are important, but the ones that actually map to pipeline.
Next is evaluation: scoring your existing content against those queries using a structured framework. Where are you cited? Where are you missing? What would need to change?
Then optimization: actually changing the content. Not recommending changes in a PDF report, but generating optimized versions that apply research-backed tactics (citations, statistics, authoritative framing) and testing them against a behavior simulator before publishing.
After that, feedback: monitoring AI platforms continuously to verify that optimizations actually worked. Did your citation rate improve? Did a competitor respond? Did a model update change the results?
And finally, attribution: connecting visibility gains to business outcomes. Did the increase in AI citations lead to more website visits? Did those visits convert? What is the revenue impact?
Each stage feeds the next. Evaluation results inform optimization priorities. Feedback verifies results. Attribution justifies continued investment. It's a loop, not a linear process.
Why Most Tools Stop at Stage One
There is a reason every GEO tool on the market is a monitoring dashboard. Monitoring is the easiest part to build. You query AI platforms, record responses, and display results.
Stages two through five are harder. Content evaluation requires a scoring framework validated against actual citation data. Optimization requires AI models fine-tuned for GEO-specific content generation. Continuous feedback requires infrastructure that queries platforms at scale without hitting rate limits. Attribution requires CRM integrations and conversion tracking.
Building all five stages is expensive and complicated. That is exactly why most companies don't do it, and exactly why the ones that do will have a real advantage.
What You Can Do Right Now
You don't need a perfect closed-loop system to start making progress. But you do need to get past stage one.
Measure with intent, not just curiosity. Don't just track your overall AI visibility score. Track it per query, per platform, and per competitor. Know which specific questions are costing you citations.
Connect GEO data to your pipeline. Even a rough attribution model is better than none. If you see a spike in AI citations for your brand and a corresponding increase in demo requests, that is signal worth tracking, even if you can't prove causation yet.
Turn observations into actions. Every time you review your GEO dashboard, the output should be a specific content change, not just a note. "Our citation rate dropped for 'best CRM for startups'" is information. "We need to add three academic citations and a benchmark comparison to our CRM page" is action.
Make the case with imperfect data. Waiting for perfect attribution data means waiting forever. Build the best case you can with what you have. Show the trends. Show the competitor gaps. Show the correlation between AI visibility and inbound inquiries. Imperfect data that drives action beats perfect data that never arrives.
The Bottom Line
The gap in the GEO market is not measurement. Several tools handle that adequately now. The gap is everything that comes after: strategy, optimization, feedback, and attribution.
